Social Media Scams Impersonating the British Association of Dermatologists
The British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) is warning the public to be vigilant against scams on social media.
We have been made aware of adverts and pages impersonating the BAD or falsely claiming that the BAD endorses certain cosmetic or medical products. It is crucial to understand that the BAD does not sell any products, nor do we endorse specific products or brands. Any such claims should be treated with the utmost suspicion.
Spotting and reporting scams
Always check the authenticity of the social media page or profile. You can cross-check with the official BAD social media handles:
Facebook: British Association of Dermatologists
Instagram: @britishdermatology
LinkedIn: British Association of Dermatologists
Be cautious of unsolicited messages or posts offering products or treatments, especially if they claim to be endorsed by the BAD.
Look out for poor grammar, spelling mistakes, overly aggressive marketing tactics, and unbelievable before and after images. Claims that are too good to be true, often are.
Always purchase treatments and products from reputable sellers. Consult with healthcare professionals before trying new treatments and avoid deals that seem too good to be true.
Reporting Misrepresentation
If you come across any social media pages or profiles misrepresenting themselves as the BAD, please report them immediately to the respective platform. Your vigilance helps protect others from falling victim to these scams. You can also notify us at comms@bad.org.uk.
