Social Media Scams Impersonating the British Association of Dermatologists

Note: this statement was updated on 16 May 2025

The British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) is warning the public to be vigilant against scams on social media.

We have been made aware of adverts and pages impersonating the BAD or falsely claiming that the BAD endorses, or sells, certain cosmetic or medical products.

The British Association of Dermatologists does not sell any products, nor do we endorse specific products or brands. No sellers have permission to use the BAD logo to advertise products. Any adverts or posts making such claims should be treated with the utmost suspicion, as should any Facebook page claiming to be the BAD which promotes products either through posts or adverts.

These are regularly reported by the BAD to Facebook for misrepresentation, fraud, and copyright infringement. However, the nature of these scams means that typically, as soon as one page is removed, another appears.

Spotting and reporting scams

Always check the authenticity of the social media page or profile. You can cross-check with the official BAD social media handles:

Facebook: British Association of Dermatologists

Instagram: @britishdermatology

LinkedIn: British Association of Dermatologists

Be cautious of unsolicited messages or posts offering products or treatments, especially if they claim to be endorsed by the BAD or appear to come from a BAD account – this is not something that we do.

Look out for overly aggressive marketing tactics, unlikely claims of endorsement from organisations like the BAD, and unbelievable before and after images. Claims that are too good to be true, often are.

Reporting Misrepresentation

If you come across any social media pages or profiles misrepresenting themselves as the BAD, please report them immediately to the respective platform. Your vigilance helps protect others from falling victim to these scams.
